Alright, time for me to complain again.
I went to the grocery store today. So, I'm looking for a parking place; and I drive in front of the store. This guy in front of me stops at least two times for pedestrians that are not crossing at the cross-walk; nor are they crossing with any sense of urgency. It didn't seem like they just jumped in front of him either, so I assume he waved them on to cross. This guy then stops again -- he's only moved a few feet between each stop. This time he stopped to let out a passenger. So, I want to explore for a bit everything that I think is messed up about this situation.
1. Waving the pedestrian on.
I'm going to estimate that it takes like 10+ seconds for the average pedestrian to cross to the point where the car can advance again.
If the car wouldn't have stopped it could have been out of the pedestrian's way in perhaps less than 3 seconds.
So lets do some math.
If the car stops,
2. Pedestrians don't make any attempt to hurry across. At the grocery store these same slow pedestrians are about to be the motorists possibly complaining about how slow the pedestrians crossing are. I don't know what to say, I guess people at the grocery store are inconsiderate and/or dumb. Or maybe there's some kinda, "The motorist owes me." thing going on. It is as if the excuse they have for taking it nice and slow while crossing the street as a pedestrian is, "when I was driving I waited for pedestrians. Now I'm a pedestrian so the motorists can just wait for me." I think witnessing this kind of reasoning may be what prompted the first combining of the words "dumb" and "ass". Cuss you'd have to be dumb and an ass to really believe this logic.
3. Couldn't the passenger have gotten out of the car while the first or second pedestrians were crossing?
4. Who am I? I'm just the guy behind that he's happy to rob time from in order to save another random person 3 seconds, well 6 cuss I'd cross too. I see this kind of crap in motorist to motorist situations all the time. Some guy thinks he's being nice by stopping and letting someone else in --that usually could have taken a different route, but of course, not always. Anyway he let that car in resulting in 3 less cars getting through the light and having to wait an additional 90+seconds each. Of course that 3 less cars dominoes back during really busy times. The person that does that drives off and feels good about himself, and he thinks he's a courteous driver all while paying no consideration to the cars behind. To that guy or girl I say, "Ass!"
I'm not saying we should never stop for pedestrians or let that car in. I'm just saying, try to consider what is best for the group which includes yourself, your passengers, and the people around you.
